Healthcare: A Proactive Approach to Wellness

It has been over 15 years since the creation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and in that time, healthcare has evolved tremendously. Now is the time to enhance and modernize our system—expanding access, improving care, and shifting our focus toward wellness and prevention.

For too long, America has taken a reactive approach to healthcare, treating illnesses after they develop rather than working to prevent them. We must change that mindset by emphasizing preventive care, including:
Advanced screenings such as MRIs, comprehensive blood work, and colonoscopies
Early detection programs to address illnesses before they become life-threatening
Mental health and emotional well-being as essential components of healthcare

Building Community Wellness Centers

To achieve this, I propose partnering with local university medical centers and teaching institutions to establish community wellness centers across the Houston metropolitan area. These centers would provide affordable, accessible services, including:
Daily health screenings for early disease detection
Fitness programs to promote long-term wellness
Nutritional guidance for healthy living and disease prevention
Mental health counseling to address stress, anxiety, and depression
Prescription management to ensure proper medication access and affordability

Houston: Leading the Future of Healthcare

As the world leader in healthcare, Houston must set the national standard for proactive, patient-centered care. By investing in wellness and preventive medicine, we can:
Lower long-term healthcare costs
Improve overall health outcomes
Reduce the burden on emergency rooms and hospitals

It’s time to lead by example. As your congressman, I will champion policies that prioritize wellness, prevention, and accessible care—ensuring all Texans have the opportunity to live healthier, longer lives.
